A lot has been said about the BMW Z8 for 2003. As BMW's entry in the convertible market the Z8 (and in this case specically the Base version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 2-door Z8 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect car to help BMW as a brand in general.

Performance

The Z8 Base is equipped with a BMW 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Getrag 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The Z8 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2003 Z8 is a Siemens MS design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 19.30 gallons.

Z8 Base Statistics

The Z8 is 173.20 inches long, 72.00 inches wide, and 51.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 98.60 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Z8 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 48 months or 50,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the convertible market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $136,900 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $124,740. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The Z8 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of fourteen in-city driving and twenty one when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

The vehicle is available in Jet Black, Jet Black with Black Soft Top, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Titanium Silver Metallic with Black Soft Top.

In Summary

There are several reasons why the BMW Z8 Base sold well in 2003. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a BMW, specifically a Z8.

A high point in the convertible market is the BMW Z8. In 2001 BMW released an upgraded version of the Z8 with one versions: Base. Sales for the Z8, especially the Z8 Base, were brisk during 2001 and 2002. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.

BMW Z8 Engine Specs

Standard equipment in the Z8 for 2000 and 2001 includes the 5.0 liter engine by BMW, weighing in at 8 cylinders and thirty two valves. A 6-speed Standard Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Convertible arena.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Z8 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2001 Z8 is a traditional Siemens MS, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 19.30 gallons.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Z8 Base are 72.00 inches wide by 173.20 inches long. It sits 51.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 98.60 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

There is a 50,000 mile, 48 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 50,000/48 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $128,000 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $115,360. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

MPG Ratings

The Z8 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of thirteen in-city driving and twenty one when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was exceptional.

The vehicle is available in Bright Red with Beige Top, Bright Red with Black Top, Jet Black with Beige Top, Jet Black with Black Top, Stratus Gray Metallic, Titanium Silver Metallic with Black Top, Topaz Blue Metallic with Beige Top, and Topaz Blue Metallic with Black Top.

What We Think of the BMW Z8

The 2001 model year was telling year for the BMW Z8. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Base version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

One of the staples of the Convertible segment is the BMW Z8. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the Z8 with one versions: Base. Sales for the Z8, especially the Z8 Base, were brisk during 2000 and 2001. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

Performance

The Z8 Base is equipped with a BMW 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Getrag 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

Z8 Base Statistics

The dimensions of the Z8 Base are 72.00 inches wide by 173.20 inches long. It sits a comfortable 51.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 98.60 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The listed retail price in 2000 (MSRP) was $128,000, with an invoice cost of $115,360. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

The standard warranty period for the Z8 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 48 months or 50,000 miles respectively.
In Summary

The 1999 model began the promise of the BMW Z8. The 2000 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the Z8 Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

The dimensions of the Z8 Alpina are 72.00 inches wide by 173.20 inches long. It sits 51.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 98.60 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $136,900 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $124,740. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

The standard warranty period for the Z8 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2003 Z8 gets 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 14 in the city. This is below average for a convertible car.

Parting Shots

There are several reasons why the BMW Z8 Alpina sold well in 2003. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a BMW, specifically a Z8.

The fuel system for the 2000 Z8 is a Siemens MS system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 19.30-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The Z8 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of thirteen in-city driving and twenty one when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was exceptional.

What We Think of the BMW Z8

The 2000 model year was telling year for the BMW Z8. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Base version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

There have been several award-winning cars from BMW over the years, including the BMW Z4 of 2004. There are two trim levels to the Z4, including 2.5i and 3.0i. The 3.0i version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2003 the popular 3.0 liter has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers nationwide.

Under the Hood

The restyled Z4 3.0i is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2003 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Z4 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The Z4 is 161.10 inches long, 70.10 inches wide, and 50.10 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 98.20 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 2004 (MSRP) was $33,600, with a dealer invoice cost of $30,735. This price is on target the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2004 Z4 is a traditional Siemens MS 45, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 14.50 gallons.

The 2004 Z4 gets 28 - 29 miles/gallon on the highway and only 20 - 21 in the city. This is subpar for a convertible car.

What We Think of the BMW Z4

There are several reasons why the BMW Z4 3.0i sold well in 2004. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a BMW, specifically a Z4.

The 2007 Z4 is an important vehicle to BMW for the convertible market segment. The Roadster 3.0si is a member of a series of five trim levels for the Z4 which include Coupe 3.0si, M Coupe, M Roadster, Roadster 3.0i, and Roadster 3.0si. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for BMW. There is strong competition from vehicles from Nissan.

Under the Hood

The Z4 Roadster 3.0si is equipped with a BMW 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Z4 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The Z4 is 161.90 inches long, 70.10 inches wide, and 49.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 98.20 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 2007 (MSRP) was $40,400, with a dealer invoice cost of $37,170. This price is on target the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2007 Z4 is a Siemens MS 70 design, using gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 14.50 gallons.

The Z4 Roadster 3.0si received a miles-per-gallon rating of 20 - 21 in-city driving and 29 - 30 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

What We Think of the BMW Z4

The 2006 model began the promise of the BMW Z4. The 2007 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the Z4 Roadster 3.0si will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
