The 2007 Z4 is an important vehicle to BMW for the convertible market segment. The Roadster 3.0si is a member of a series of five trim levels for the Z4 which include Coupe 3.0si, M Coupe, M Roadster, Roadster 3.0i, and Roadster 3.0si. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for BMW. There is strong competition from vehicles from Nissan.

The restyled Z4 2.5i is equipped with a 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a Getrag five-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2002 version.
